Last days of Summer

Autumn is my favourite time of year; I've had enough of the heat (what we had of it), and Summer clothes, by the time I return to work in September, and I'm ready to start wearing thick tights and trousers and warmer tops. Trouble is it's still mild so I spend a lot of time fanning myself and removing layers then wrapping up again , although it's more likely to my age than the weather.

One thing I don't enjoy about Autumn is knowing the car boot sale season is coming to an end. They run all year round in some areas, but not around here, so come early October they stop and I have to satisfy myself with Charity shop browsing for six months or so. I made the most of the fine weather last Sunday morning and visited two local boot sales. I love the buzz of not knowing what you might find, and I picked up some great stuff.

A pressure cooker for £1.50. My Mum used one of these when I was a child, it always scared me a bit, but I've been reading about them on Money Saving Expert and thought I'd give one a go. I've been keeping my eye open for one for a while and finally struck lucky. I'll keep you posted on how I get on with it, I usually try some new recipes over the School holidays so roll on half-term.

I got a couple of DVDs for my collection, including The Social Network, for 50p each. A couple of books, £1 each. And best of all a pile of clothes all my size from one lady, around 20 items for £9...absolute bargain. I'm always on the lookout for work clothes as I need to look smart but can't spend a fortune on them. These will make a welcome addition to my work wardrobe, for a fraction of the cost. Here's hoping for dry Sundays for a few more weeks yet.

I picked up this book from a boot sale a couple of months ago, and have just finished reading it...it's one of the best books I've read for years, I can highly recommend it.

Even more exciting, the film version is released on 28th October. I think this will be an Oscar winner, can't wait to go and see it. Enjoy your weekend whatever you're doing. x

My mother had a pressure cooker too - everything got cooked in it which in our house was boiled potatoes, chicken casserole and braising steak. It frightened me then and they do now...good luck with yours!

I love hearing about your car boot finds as I rarely get a chance to go to them...although saying that I did go to one last week and did very well. It gives you such a high doesn't it?
