xmas...ok I know it's cheating...
I know, I know, it's still only August, but before long Christmas will be upon us. I've noticed a few people have mentioned the C word (or in this case the X word) and some are busy making Christmas items. I loved Alicia's Christmas tree trimming post and since I read it I've picked up some vintage Christmas baubles at car boot sales. Elizabeth collects them too. They're going to be quite the thing this Christmas season don't you know.
Old Christmas decorations and baubles make me feel quite nostalgic, and I'm always thrilled to find any because they're so delicate and break easily. Just think, they've been hung on the tree each year for decades, and taken down each year and wrapped carefully until the next time. And yet you can still find whole boxes of them while you're thrifting. If you're lucky.
I've got a fancy for a silver Christmas tree this year, decorated in the vintage style.
I'm not sure what DH will make of it all....but he indulges my little whims, he's a tolerant sort of bloke.
Oh, while I'm on the X subject...The X-Factor. Simon. I love him. Doesn't he just speak the truth? It might not be what the wannabees wanna hear but the man talks sense. And who can blame him when faced with the likes of this?
And, don't miss Nigella EXpress, Monday evenings, 8.30pm, BBC2.

My mum has decorations from her childhood in the 1930's that she puts on the tree every year,I love my tree to look eclectic I hate the all red and gold kind of look.We buy a few tree toys each year and they all hold memories for us.We met in December of 1994,met up again in December 2000 and we married in December 2004 so Christmas is a special time for us.
I loved the pics on this post....and yes, Simon should be an MP he'd be great.

Hi Gill should we forgive you for mentioning the C word. Yes ...but only because you seem like such a nice person. I didnt see X factor but was amazed at how out of touch with reality that young lady!!! was.
Hi Gill
Mention that C word as much as you like - I love it. Those baubles are very pretty - the new ones just don't compare. I have a fancy for some vintage tree lights shaped like lanterns or maybe candles. Think I'll have to be more diligent when at the car boot.
Take care

What wonderful decorations, I love Christmas!
Thanks for the Nigella reminder too, I'd forgotten it starts on Monday:)
Wow that clip from X factor was unbelievable! That girl need professional help!
I am very lucky to have some really old tinsel toys like that - my grandmothers saved them, and when my parents died we divided them between myself, my brother and my sister. I have a hummingbird that clips onto a branch that was on a my dad's 1st tree in 1921 (I had older parents in case you wondered!) and it's so fragile. I also got about 30 for 5p each last year in my favourite charity shop - everyone I worked with thought I was crackers. I want to make myself a village like Alicia's - I have some magazines from the 50's that show you how, so I will definately add that to my list!

Oh I love those baubles! I've been looking for some at car boots too, but so far nothing! Maybe I will find some tomorrow.
Thanks for the nice comments you left me about Greg x
I've loved BB too and liked all the housemates in the final. I was really sad to see it finished especially when it was obvious that they were all choked up to leave the house this year.
Thanks for mentioning Nigella Express - I had no idea about that and would have been mad to miss it.
X-factor tonight - I bet Leona will have an album out in the next few weeks.
Love Christmas.... mention it as much as you like from now on, because my countdown has already started!
And there I was meandering down the aisle when my child did one of those Charlie and Lola-seen something ab fab screams.... for Nigella on the cover of the Radio Times. Are we going to watch? You betcha... and she will make me watch too! (I have trained her well... Nigella, Ina and Anthea. Now, if I can just persuade her to keep the house tidy, I'll be happy!)
Oh you really made me smile just then, nostalgic Xmas baubles and old Take That -thank you!!!! We were watching Simon last night and were thinking just the same thing!! Can't wait for a bit more Nigella too!

thanks for the reminder about nigella - I love her too!
Christmas - what colours do I use?
how am I wrapping my gifts this year? would friends appreciate handmade gifts? etc etc
Yes I've started thiinking about it too.
love ax
Hi Gill I too have mentioned the c word, this year seems to have flown so I like to prepare I can not bear running around at the last minute like a headless chicken making do with gifts and trimmings that I really know are not what I had in mind. I can visualise how I want the table and tree to look, I like the old reds & gold almost victoriana style but more of that nearer the time. Each year since my husband died myself and my children by a special ornament for the tree. Since becoming a blogger I am hoping to buy something from one of my fellow bloggers which will make it all the more special
Only just forgiving you for the C word I want summer!! The Kitchen Aid is mine not Sarahs! Long saved for and then got some back pay so decided to buy Can't beat or kneed like I used to This baby does it all!
I love your decorations. I was looking at some like that yesterday but, way too expensive in an antique store. Simon...love him...don't tell.
I buy old decorations whenever I find them so I now have enough to have a "vintage" tree as well as our big tree.
